BMW 801 Fuel Injection Pump - Restoration

I try to document my work on the BMW 801 fuel injection pump by taking photos before and after restoration. These pictures are the first in a series illustrating the progress of my work.

When detached from the pump,
valve No. 5 was amazingly
well preserved
Usually, the valves looked like the one to the right, shown here with a valve already polished

This is how the backside casing looked after removal of the cover on January 3rd, 1997 Same view after cleaning and removal of tappets before sanding in January 1999 After sanding - polishing has already begun on the left side

Lüfter.jpg (16795 Byte)The part between de-aerator and main pump casing was taken off after the last of the 14 M6-screws had been removed. The picture shows the status immediately after removal. There was a paper seal between this part and the main body, the remains of which can be seen in the photo. The long M6-screws protruding from the cast aluminum part were holding the actual suspension of the de-aerator missing here. Originally, there were ten screws, but those missing here were ejected when the plane crashed. I found them in the main body.

Duration of restoration work so far: 310 hours
